Flat

Since Tanner was an itty-bitty babe, he has always favored sleeping on his right side.  It didn't matter how we positioned him, he would wiggle his way back to laying on the right side of his head.  Since he was such a stubborn little guy, the right side of his head ended up pretty flat.  His doctor thought it would round out once he started sitting and being upright more, but that didn't happen.  At his 7 month appointment, we decided it was time to get a helmet.  After a few days of talking to the insurance and calling several orthotic and prosthetic companies, we found out that our insurance didn't cover cranial molding helmets because they considered it to be cosmetic.  LAME!  Anyway, if it's severe enough and not fixed, it can cause jaw alignment issues and vision problems in the future -- something that we didn't want Tanner, or us, to have to deal with.  So on May 18th, we took a little visit to the orthotist.  His head is "off" by 14 mm.  The average child that they treat is off by 10-15mm, so his was on the high end.  They did a little scan of his head by using a sock over his head covered with lots of little reflective dot stickers.  It didn't even matter that he moved -- it was crazy -- and the scanner ended up making a 3D picture of his head.  We'll get his helmet in a week, and it is likely he will have it for 3-4 months.

Waiting for Dave, Tanner's orthotist

Happy Boy!

Getting ready for his scan

After his appointment, ready to go home.  He was such a good boy :)
